Ace of Pace- Kyle C. wins Prediction Mile

Friday, September 16 2011 - Kyle Copp

It's time for practice on a Friday afternoon the day before a big meet, which can only mean one thing for the Plainfield North Boys XC team-  Prediction Mile!  Before runners embark on their main runs, the team meets on the PNHS track to compete in an event not necessarily won by the swiftest-  but by the runner who can best predict his time for a mile.  Inspired by former Eastern Illinois University XC coach John McInerney, the prediction mile is a way for the team to add fun, camaraderie, and a quest for bragging rights the day before big meets.... On Friday, Sep. 16, Kyle "Officer" Copp became the first PNHS runner of 2011 to hit the nail on the head, running his mile in the exact time that he predicted...  Runners are not allowed the benefit of a watch on their Prediction Mile, and the added challenge of Coach Derks spouting bogus splits after each lap adds to the challenge.  Shortly after Kyle came across the line, fellow teammate Dan W. matched the feat, running his mile in his exact prediction...
note:  DW's perfect time was DQ'ed for missing the official start of the Prediction Mile.
